I asked him:
"What do you do when there's nothing left of you and life still tries to take more?"
He hugged me tighter and said nothing.
He pulled me from him so he could look me in the face, "No, that's not an option." I offended him, but I was just telling him what I thought. "You can never give up; if you do that, you give up everything that ever meant anything to you."
"You're the only thing that means anything to me." I hugged him to me again.
He pressed his lips to the top of my head and kissed my hair then whispered, "Then don't give up on me."
I smiled, just a little pull at the corners of my lips, but it was the first one in what seemed an eternity.
